Technical Documentation Specialist

Teal Drones, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings and a leading U.S. manufacturer of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), is looking for an experienced Technical Documentation Specialist to be responsible for a complete range of documentation across the company, with priority on aerospace documents related to sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems) to satisfy Government and Military requirements per contract, as well as related internal company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Role:

    • Primary author and organizer of technical documentation including, as examples, Weight & Balance processes and reports, Hazard Analysis to Identify Safety-Critical HW/FW/SW/System Functions & Requirements, Test Results for Flight Safety Critical Requirements, Bi-Directional Trace of Safety Requirements to Hazard Analysis, Software Static Analysis Against Coding Standards, Safety Assessment Report, Cybersecurity Plan, Software Level of Rigor, and other industry-standard flight safety and airworthiness documents and reports required by the Government per contractual requirements.

    • Contributing author for company SOPs to incorporate appropriate industry-standard best practices to support company goals and objectives in this technology and market segment.

    • Secondarily, potential contributing author of customer-facing technical documentation including, but not limited to, product requirements, operator manuals, training & service manuals, software release notes, technical & service bulletins, etc.

    • Support of Program Management, Configuration Management, Executive Management, Safety Engineering, Export Control, and other departmental documentation initiatives and needs.

Responsibilities:

    • Support the company’s Government, military, and commercial bid proposals by providing the required documents, as well as the ongoing documents required upon winning contracts

    • Maintain required Government, military, and commercial documentation as products and software are updated to ensure that documentation reflects current product configurations

    • Efficiently utilize appropriate desktop publishing applications, MS Office applications, graphic design tools, and cloud-based collaboration tools such as Atlassian Confluence and Jira

    • Participate in Agile development utilizing Jira to plan and track documentation tasks within sprints and software/hardware releases

    • Work collaboratively with all departments to address documentation needs

    • Work closely with Configuration Management to ensure proper review, release, revision control, and storage of all forms of documentation

    • Assist, if needed, in defining, planning, and creating user, service, and training documentation in parallel with new product development

Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of technical documentation experience

    • Significant experience with Military / Government proposal writing and producing contracted technical documentation

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field is highly desired

    • High level of attention to detail

    • Fast learner, willing to push outside comfort zone to learn technical products and concepts

    • Ability to understand, distill, and describe technical concepts in writing with clarity, demonstrating excellent spelling and grammatical skills

    • Sufficiently skilled in the usage of common desktop publishing, MS Office, and graphics creation and manipulation tools

    • Have a good sense for design and layout for presentability and readability

    • Experience using Atlassian Confluence & Jira cloud-based tools for collaboration and planning of work is desirable

    • Though responsible to one manager, the ability to collaborate with, take direction from, and prioritize work from a variety of sources

    • Familiarity with disciplined Configuration Management concepts preferred
