Embedded Linux Software Engineer

Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is looking to fill an immediate position for an Embedded Linux Software Engineer. Teal is focused on creating world class system solutions serving a broad range of applications for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Teal is working to deliver state of the art, high quality, high performance robotic systems to address the growing applications in the drone industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of new software components for embedded Linux systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in both new and existing software.
  • Enhance functionality and optimize performance in the Linux kernel and user space.
  • Contribute to code reviews to ensure software quality, adherence to coding standards.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers and actively engage in discussions during code review sessions.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for software design, implementation, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Possess 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient understanding of software development principles, best practices, and design processes.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to embedded Linux systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Proficient in C and C++ including polymorphism and design patterns.
  • Proficient in scripting languages Bash and Python.
  • Proficient in coordinating and managing multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with software build and build systems, including Yocto.

Additional Desired Attributes and Skills:

  • Previous experience in electronics development and testing.
  • Possess or express interest in obtaining Part 107 certification for remotely operating small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting schematics, understanding physical connections and the implications on software.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other electronics tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, as required by the duties and responsibilities.
  • Adeptness in moving around the office, manufacturing facilities, and other workspaces.
  • Ability to actively engage in team discussions, presentations, and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines in laboratory or manufacturing settings.
