Teal Golden Eagle & the Blue sUAS Program

We are thrilled to announce that our Golden Eagle has been approved as one of only five drones exclusively chosen by the DoD’s Defense Innovation Unit in an effort to safely adopt emerging sUAS technologies for government intelligence operations.

At Teal, our mission is to continue to spark a resurgence of the American drone industry through 100% American manufactured drones. With DJI holding almost 80% of the current drone market, the U.S. drone industrial base is missing out on this valuable category, and we believe that this is a market dynamic that will change significantly in the 2020’s.

Over the years, growing concerns have surfaced surrounding foreign technology manufacturers and the access they may have to American intelligence data through their products. Many of these concerns are in regard to DJI in particular, a Chinese company. As cybersecurity concerns have continued to rise, the DoD has taken measures to create opportunities for DJI alternatives to step onto the scene. In 2017, the Army prohibited the commercial use of DJI drones and just one year later, the Pentagon followed this memo with one of their own that prohibited the purchase of all small commercial drones altogether, though some exceptions could be made.

With the launch of the Department of Defense’s new program, Blue Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (Blue sUAS), we, along with four other drone manufacturers, have been able to take the first crucial steps toward building the foundation of a much needed, native industrial base – one that continues to develop and deploy cutting-edge sUAS technologies for government operations.

Through the Blue sUAS program, we have been working closely with the DoD to put Golden Eagle through rigorous cybersecurity penetration testing as well as to standardize controls, protocols, and functions in an effort to better serve government operations. We are looking forward to the continued growth of the American drone industry and will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you!
