Our Background

Teal was founded in 2014 by George Matus (who was 17 at the time) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Teal’s purpose is to enable unmanned systems to be more than just flying cameras. With a strong team and a backbone of venture support, Teal is helping to rebuild America’s sUAS industrial base to compete on a global scale.

Generation One—Teal One & Teal Sport

Our initial goal at Teal was to create a modular drone with onboard computing that would enable a new world of drone applications for consumers and industry alike. The Teal One’s modular, user-friendly design allowed for new applications and learning, and made flight effortless for everyone.

Teal One’s onboard supercomputer and powerful software architecture led to development of aerial applications for the research and hobbyist community, and custom applications for commercial partners. With Teal One, we became the first company to mass produce this category of drone, at scale, in America. As we executed on our vision and provided units to consumers and pilot programs in industry, it became clear that while our vision was directionally correct, there was a larger opportunity at play with the shifting technology and geopolitical landscape.

Generation Two—Building a Commercial American Solution

At Teal, we quickly became aware of the growing divide between the international drone technology market and American’s ability to compete. We set out on a mission to bring back America’s drone industrial base by creating trusted, scalable solutions for commercial and government markets. We’ve succeeded in our first step towards that, introducing Golden Eagle as our next generation platform.

Golden Eagle provides enhanced situational awareness for inspections and short-range reconnaissance, while maintaining the ethos of Teal One. Teal’s leading-edge, compliant sUAS technology protects and informs front-line operators with a scalable, secure, and rugged system. Teal has quickly become a key sUAS provider for Government and Commercial customers alike.

We’re proud to announce that in 2020 we have been featured by the United States DoD’s Defense Innovation Unit as a “Blue sUAS”. Additionally, we are listed on the GSA Schedule and have received an ATO from the United States Air Force. Teal officially provides a compliant drone solution for American Government and Industry. We are proud to be one of the few companies that can supply sUAS to agencies throughout the USA.

Throughout our history, Teal has collaborated with specialized vendors in the American sUAS space. Moving together with this ecosystem toward the development of autonomous, collaborative systems is the natural evolution for Teal. We’re working together with industry and technology partners to offer a modular architecture interoperable with other solutions to create highly scalable and open autonomy that powers Teal’s systems, and much more.
